Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. This tissue can attach to other pelvic and abdominal organs, which can cause pain, bloating, heavy or irregular periods, and impact the normal function of the pelvic region.
At Peak Pelvic Health, it is our mission to raise the standard of pelvic floor care. You deserve to be heard, valued, and taught how to optimize your own health!
So, how do you feel better? It begins with understanding what is going on in your body.
What does it look like?
Extra tissue similar to the lining of your womb can grow on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, rectum, bladder, and even into the digestive organs.
During your period, the endometriosis tissue does not leave your body like the lining of your uterus does. It builds up, which can cause inflammation, scarring, or cysts.
What does it feel like?
Endometriosis can cause mild to severe pelvic pain, painful or heavy periods, pain during sex, and difficulty getting pregnant.
Pain from endometriosis can cause muscle guarding and spasming in your pelvic floor, and as a result can result in urinary leakage and constipation as well.
If you have similar symptoms keeping you from working or enjoying everyday life, this is a good indicator that you may want to see a pelvic floor physical therapist!
How We Treat Endometriosis
We can treat your muscle tissue, fascia, abdominal organs, and nervous system to relieve your symptoms. The same treatment does not work for everyone, which is why our expert team of physical therapists will perform a thorough assessment when we suspect this may be a cause of your symptoms. After your pelvic floor physical therapist completes their assessment, the treatment options typically consist of the following:
Pelvic Floor Therapy:
Deep Diaphragmatic breathing
Internal Tissue Assessment
Gentle Yoga
Manual Therapy
Dry Needling
Cupping
Visceral Treatment:
Gentle hands on techniques to improve the mobility and function of internal organs
Can be particularly beneficial to reduce pain around periods
Things you can focus on at home:
Nutrition
Gut health
Hormone balance
Stress management
Removing environmental toxins
By increasing blood flow, addressing pain points, and supporting the nervous system - you may begin to feel relief from endometriosis symptoms.
Although endometriosis can only be taken out surgically, we can help you prepare pre-operatively, recover post-surgery, or even provide conservative, but effective pain management options for those that want to avoid surgery altogether.
Our foremost goal is to get to the root cause of your symptoms, and improve your quality of life through optimal pelvic health. Endometriosis is an increasingly common source of pelvic and abdominal pain, and we are here to support our clients in dealing with this condition!
